Building (Building Product Information Requirements) Regulations 2022 introduced new minimum information requirements for building products called Building Product Information Requirements (BPIR). This new set of regulations that will come into effect on 11 December 2023 in Aotearoa, New Zealand.
High quality building products are central to safe durable buildings. From December 11th 2023, MBIE (Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment) requires companies to disclose information demonstrating product compliance with the Building Code. This information helps you the customer, make informed decisions about building products and whether they are appropriate for your application.
An increasing range and complexity of building products and methods has increased the risk of not meeting Building Code requirements. BPIR regulations aim to provide clear and consistent information about how building products comply with the Building Code and perform under different conditions and purposes.
BPIR is important for anyone who manufactures, imports, sells, or uses building products, as it will help them to make informed decisions, ensure quality and safety, and avoid costly mistakes and disputes.
BPIR will also benefit the building sector, as it will increase transparency, accountability, and innovation. Building consent authorities will also have the right information readily available to check that plans and specifications meet the Building Code, which will support more efficient consenting.

By clicking this tag, a popup will appear showing information as required by BPIR. This screen will have the option to print or save as PDF. Select the output for the document as needed.
Please note that that BPIR regulations only apply to designated building products that are manufactured in or imported into Aotearoa, New Zealand on or after 11 December 2023.
All affected products come under designations of class 1 or 2.
Class 1: A building product which is mass-produced or produced in batches to a general specification.
Class 2: A building product that is based on a line of products where each unit is customised to the specification of an individual client.
Specifically for products listed on the Anzor’s website, BPIR tags will only show against products where Building Code compliance is a factor.
Per MBIE’s direction:
“[All impacted products must be:] When used in building work, it may affect whether the building work complies with the building code. If a manufacturer or importer intends for a particular product to be used in building work where Building Code compliance is a factor, then it is a designated building product for the purpose of the regulations. This includes products that are intended or expected to be used both in situations where the Building Code applies and where it does not.”
